A Perfect Day Hiking in Grindelwald & Swimming in Bachalpsee

Edited on

As someone obsessed with stunning landscapes, I’ve always considered the Swiss Alps the ultimate destination. I was smiling ear-to-ear on the train to Grindelwald when those iconic snow-capped peaks came into view—my dream had finally come true!

The trail to Bachalpsee was packed with both tourists and hikers, but that didn’t take away from the experience as it offered breathtaking views at every turn. The highlight, of course, was reaching the lake itself: the crystal-clear water reflecting the surrounding snow-capped peaks looked straight out of a postcard. I even took a refreshing dip—absolutely invigorating even though it was freezing!

The route

This route is perfect if you love going downhill as most of it is descending. The total amount of descent is 945 meters, while the total ascent is only 353 meters—better ready those knees!

Basically, the first half is hiking up to Bachalpsee, and the second half takes you down to Bort, instead of going the same way back to the Grindelwald First cable car station like what most visitors do.
